My Take on The ACTIVE Network SMART EVENTS Cloud

I don't know how you feel, but this year really went by quickly.  Maybe it's because of all of the many changes and developments in our industry, but time sure seemed to fly by. Here at ACTIVE Network, so many positive things and developments have come to fruition, that on this year's Thanksgiving Holiday we had much to be thankful for — to say the least!

In my travels and conversations, many people have asked me for my 30,000-foot perspective on our November 1 release of the SMART EVENTSTM CLOUD.  So here goes: for me, personally, it's the culmination of the goals and ideas of many smart leaders — including JR Sherman, Anthony Miller, Keith Washington, and other ACTIVE Network Business Solutions Group executives.  It's the realization of a conversation about 2 years or so ago, when I first met the executive leadership team from ACTIVE Network, as we (StarCite) were getting down to the wire about which entity was going to acquire us.  I distinctly remember being impressed by JR and Anthony Miller.  We sat down and Anthony asked me where I thought the meetings and events industry was going, especially with my knowledge and background on SMMP.  What amazed me immediately was, we were both on the same page in terms of industry consolidation and transformation via cloud-based technology.

We foresaw a convergence of features, functionalities and availability for customers and organizations to access meetings AND events technology via one cloud-based solution.  We talked about corporations and their desire to consolidate suppliers and point solutions in favor of singular platform solutions that would not only provide enterprise spend visibility but also enable sales leads and ROI.

Now fast forward to November 1, 2013 – and we introduce phase I of our SMART EVENTS Cloud to the marketplace.  In 2014, with the passing of each calendar quarter, you will experience the benefits of a controlled and phased roll out that will finally eliminate the need for disparate point solutions that most companies today experience and pay for in managing their SMMPs, as well as their event marketing programs.

To me, the date is significant as I am confident that, in 2014, people will realize that they can be part of this sea change.  If you haven't yet checked out our SMART EVENTS Cloud, do yourself a favor and make some time to read up on what's to come.  Become an early adopter and lead the change instead of following others; your company and your career will benefit from this important change management.
