“If you’re not using the information [you gather] to drive insights, then why are you asking for that information?” – David Saef, Strategy and Marketing Executive, GES Global.

It was with this cutting—yet fair—question that David Saef (@DSStrategy) kicked off his talk entitled Event Intelligence – Use Data to Get Results. It’s a good question. For event planners it’s certainly worth considering. Are your post-show surveys giving you the information you need? Are you using that information to improve your attendees’ experience?

It was refreshing to hear David’s message of survey simplification: ask fewer questions; ask them more consistently; use the data to locate key segments among your attendees, exhibitors and sponsors.

Finding those “key” segments and delivering what they need will drive higher attendance. This in turn will bring more sought-after sponsors and exhibitors—driving even more attendance. Meetings, events and travel software company Lanyon has hired Dirk Wakeham as its president and chief operating officer.
 
Wakeham joins Dallas-based Lanyon from RealPage Inc. (Nasdaq: RP), a rental housing software business headquartered in Carrollton. During his five years as president of RealPage, Wakeham lead the company through an initial public offering and grew revenue to more than $300 million.
