Lanyon @ PCMA EduCon: Behind the Scenes, Getting Things Done

Posted by Patrick Mendoza - Director of Corporate Communications at Lanyon on 06/22/2015

< Back to Blog

I recently had the opportunity to travel to PCMA’s Education Conference at the Fort Lauderdale Convention Center in Florida. As I continue learning about the meetings and events industry, I’m always impressed by the passion that meeting and event planners bring to their jobs.

Session after session was held on how to enhance the event experience for attendees. Event planners got to hear how to bring sustainable practices to an event —  and, in a riveting lunch presentation, how to overcome legal challenges to attendees live-streaming events with popular new apps like Periscope.

Most meeting and event planners I know and have worked with pay attention to every little detail, ensuring that the event is stress-free and easy for every attendee — regardless of that attendee’s needs or expectations.

That’s why I think it’s so telling that when the associations that represent meeting, event and convention planners look for software to power their meetings, they choose Lanyon.

At PCMA’s Education Conference (EduCon for short) — powered by Lanyon technology — more than 650 attendees were seamlessly checked-in, processed and given their badges within a matter of seconds. And as we know, registration and check-in is usually the attendee’s first experience with the event and/or brand — and one of the most critical factors of attendee satisfaction.

In addition to the PCMA Education Conference, Lanyon powers the upcoming MPI WEC event, in addition to many other meeting and event planner conventions. (Funny note: My Uber driver had a hearty laugh when I told him there was a convention for convention planners!)

I can’t imagine any greater pressure than putting on an event that caters to others who plan meetings and events. It must be like a chef cooking a meal for Giada or Julia! And when the pressure’s on and there’s little room for failure, those meeting and event planners choose Lanyon.

The reason the associations who represent meeting and event planners choose Lanyon is simple: we’re the only ones in the industry who cover meetings, events and travel — with a focus on making the planner’s job easier by automating tasks while gathering and analyzing data.

Having to be so detail-orientated, along with the demand to manage the needs and wants of thousands of attendees, makes event planning quite stressful. Forbes recently ranked the profession as the 8th most stressful career — and that stress is even more intense when planning events for peers in the industry.

When the heat of that pressure ratchets up higher than the heat and humidity of Fort Lauderdale in June, planners who choose Lanyon keep their cool.
