Here's a report from Rebecca Yetzer, Content Marketer at ACTIVE Network, who attended a recent ACTIVE summit in Orlando, FL.

On the heels of ACTIVE Network announcing its upcoming SMART EVENTSTM Cloud software, attendees at an ACTIVE Network Business Solutions enterprise summit in Orlando saw demonstrations of the cloud-based technology in action. We are pleased to report a positive reaction, and as one attendee mentioned, “A giant leap to be able to look at what the industry has been screaming for.”

Attendees joined a general session, where the innovative minds behind the SMART EVENTS Cloud provided overview demos of the key enhancements. As Keith Washington, Vice President of Product Management at ACTIVE Network, put it – the goal is to provide “less clicks” within the cloud software that makes it easy for any event planner to use. Throughout the session, attendees gained more insight into what the software will mean for their business in the big picture. Or better put, in regards to “big data.”

The meetings and events industry is one of the few industries that can truly benefit from big data. Anthony Miller, Vice President of Strategy at ACTIVE Network, says it best, “Storing data allows you to treat customers like an old friend.” Instead of asking for the same data over and over in different systems, you could be consolidating. The SMART EVENTS Cloud is all about comprehensive analytics across your entire meetings and events program – from small meetings to large conferences.

The SMART EVENTS Cloud was designed with users in mind, and attendees at the summit saw this first-hand with screenshots of the new user interface and navigation planned around the event lifecycle. JR Sherman, Senior Vice President and General Manager at ACTIVE Network shared his insight on the SMART EVENTS Cloud development in saying that ACTIVE was, “Focused on creating and innovating technology with the input of customers to collaborate on the evolution of the meetings and events industry.”

An example of this collaboration was validated during the summit, where Betty McNulty, General Manager, Enterprise at ACTIVE Network, led a panel on Strategic Meetings Management.  One of the panel members, a pharma manager and travel leader, shed light on the small meetings tool within ACTIVE StarCiteTM for their small meetings management.  Their company is the largest user of the Small Meetings tool, with about 1,000 meetings sent through the system last year, and helped in working toward the ACTIVE StarCite Small Meetings 2.0 enhancement within the SMART EVENTS Cloud. As a global manager, he believes in using one tool for better visibility and control, in which consolidation is key. Thanks to the participation of customers like this, the Small Meetings 2.0 tool will make creating and sourcing small meetings easier than ever.

Watch this video for an overview of the summit and more insights from attendees and the team at ACTIVE Network. We’d love to hear your feedback after watching it!
