I don’t know about you, but my IMEX America agenda in Las Vegas at the Venetian Hotel was chock full of appointments, networking, meetings, media and education sessions!
It started for me on “Smart Monday” where I represented ACTIVE Network, one of the few thought leadership sponsors for MPI Foundation’s SMM Initiative. I was privileged to be asked to introduce the SMM session: Current Practices In Strategic Meetings Management, where presenters, Dr. Eliza Hixson, Lecturer – Events Management at Leeds Metropolitan University in Australia, and Christian Savelli, Senior Director Business Intelligence & Research for MPI, co-presented initial findings of the SMM Iniative. Dr. Hixson is the lead researcher for the MPI SMM study.
ACTIVE Network is proud to continue our tradition of industry thought leadership by Sponsoring the MPI Foundation’s SMM Initiative and we will be showcasing the results of the study as it progresses via whitepapers, webinars, etc.
One of my conference highlights was sitting down to a quiet one-on-one lunch with new MPI President & CEO, Paul Van Deventer to talk about this industry and share ideas and thoughts about what next for the marketplace and, more importantly, to meeting planners and meeting planning!
Then on Thursday, I moderated a panel of experts in the show floor Tech Hub. The session was billed as eRFP Best Practices: Perspectives from All Stakeholders. We invited participants from every part of the Meetings/Events ecosystem including, Therese Jardine of Microsoft Global Procurement, representing the corporate buyer perspective; Larry Bonistalli of HRG, to present the intermediary perspective; and Doreen Burse of Marriott International, to speak to the supplier perspective on eRFPs. It was an interesting discussion of pros/cons and prognostication of what’s coming. Therese made an interesting point of stating that the supplier community for eRFP technology really needs to get together to create an industry standard to increase efficiencies for all parties and take the costs out of the equation, especially for suppliers to respond in one common format.
Please download What RFPs Mean to SMBs: Turning Headaches into Solutions for Event Planners, a whitepaper by i-Meet and ACTIVE Network, that discussed RFP challenges and solutions.
How was your experience this year’s IMEX America? Please share!
