Interview with MPI: Getting Creative with Your Corporate Social Responsibility Program

We’re excited to bring a new element to Lanyon Live this year – a corporate social responsibility (CSR) program. We’ve partnered with Friends of Wednesday’s Child to bring attendees a community project that’s both creative and meaningful.

I sat down with Jessie States, manager of professional development at MPI, to get some tips on how we can take our community project at Lanyon Live and make it truly impactful – and wanted to share her insights with you.

Jessie’s tips for making community projects meaningful:

  1. Understand the impact your attendees want to make – then help them make it. When it comes to the “3 P’s of Event Planning,” you’ve probably heard about the third “P” (profit), but how are you addressing “people” and “planet” at your meetings and events? Meeting professionals across the globe are embracing social and environmental practices in new and unique ways – and developing creative programs for their attendees to participate in.

  2. Your event should make a mark on the community. I love leaving positive legacies on the communities we visit around the world – and so do the people who attend our events. They want to leave inspired with the knowledge that they have helped people in need or alleviated a local challenge.

  3. Be open to the myriad ways your event can contribute to the surrounding community. Every year MPI tries to incorporate social initiatives in different ways. One year, we built prosthetic hands for amputees around the world during one of MPI WEC’s general sessions... We’ve packed welcome kits for young hospital patients of different ages for different days... We’ve held a Knowledge Café with local nonprofit community leaders to inspire planners to do more… And at this year’s WEC, we cleaned the shoreline in Atlantic City. Switching things up keeps attendees engaged.
