So you’re headed to Las Vegas to the IMEX America show October 13-15. You’re probably planning on spending most of your time in educational sessions and cruising the trade show floor.

But where is it written that you can’t take a break? Las Vegas is America’s adult playground. Venture out, let your hair down and enjoy some of the city’s other, non-gambling attractions.

Here are 5 suggestions for having out-of-the-box fun while at IMEX America:

1.     Take a zip line ride on Slotzilla! It’s one the world's most unique zip line experiences. You can zip and zoom your way across the iconic Fremont Street Experience, a downtown entertainment and gaming complex, launching from a colorful, 12-story slot machine-themed takeoff tower. Choose a traditional seated harness 850 feet above ground, or zoom in a horizontal "superman" position 1,700-feet high. Up there in the air, you’re the star—thousands of spectators are watching from the Fremont Street Experience below.

2.     Step out of the desert and into the jungle – with a trip to the Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay. Tour 14 different exhibits through a tropical environment into a sunken shipwreck and see 2,000 animals, including some of the most dangerous predators in the world … like Sandbar, Sandtiger and Sawfish sharks. There’s also an 8-foot Komodo dragon from Indonesia, crocodiles and piranhas. The best is that you get to stay dry, too.

3.     Visit the eclectic and innovative Downtown Project, the urban renewal project started in 2011 by Zappos’ CEO Tony Hsieh in a once-downtrodden stretch of Las Vegas. A must-see: Downtown Container Park, home to 39 owner-operator businesses including bars, restaurants, art galleries, and a wide variety of retail shops. The businesses are housed in 43 repurposed shipping containers and 41 locally manufactured structures called Xtreme Cubes. Stay around after dark to view the giant Praying Mantis shooting flames from its antennae.

4.     Climb a mountain. Visit the Mount Charleston Recreation Area, about 39 miles north of the city – or a 45-minute drive. The star of this beautiful spot is the 11,900-foot Charleston peak. The lower foothills are covered with pinion pine and juniper trees. There is a wide variety of wildlife in the area including Rocky Mountain Elk, Desert Bighorn Sheep, Mule Deer and many others. Professional guides are available.

5.     Get out and go shopping. There are plenty of casinos in which to spend your money in Las Vegas. But there’s only one Downtown Summerlin – located just west of the Strip. This open-air center features over 125 shops and lots of eclectic restaurants. There’s something for everybody here – even a movie theatre.
